It’s weird because I never would’ve thought a Daryl spinoff had more potential than a Negan spinoff. I’ve never been all that legitimately interested in Daryl as a character whereas Negan has always been throughly compelling to watch (despite the issues with the writing for him). Dead City as a show though so far has disappointed me between the completely bland undeveloped new characters, pitch black lighting (I can barely ever see anything I feel like, it’s so dark), the Negan/Maggie dynamic getting insufferably repetitive and just generally the overarching rescue mission plot not being particularly engaging. I’m also bummed that we stopped with the whole ‘exploring NYC’ aspect after the first few episodes, I really wanted more of that given it was literally the whole selling point of the show.
The promo pics for Daryl Dixon that were released the other day and the SDCC poster actually have me really excited. I’m loving all the medieval aesthetics (medieval clothing, medieval abbeys, horse drawn wooden carriages for transportation), the brightness and color of the cinematography (which is a stark contrast to Dead City) and just generally the plot of an underground nightclub / black market sounds a lot more genuinely interesting than Dead City’s rescue mission. I’m really interested too in Clemence Posey’s character - nothing more cool than a warrior nun lol - and the main bad guy who’s leading the black market
