In Praise of Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Between Elaine Bennis in Seinfeld and President Selina Meyer in Veep, JLD has demonstrated that she’s a comedic actress of the highest degree. In my view, both roles have been two of the best long-term comedic roles in recent memory, and JLD is largely responsible for that. She brings a chaotic energy to the roles, weaving narcissism and selfishness into the lines with glee, while also managing to make a rather compelling case for our empathy towards her. A third worthy mention of hers is Maggie Lizer, the (not) blind lawyer in Arrested Development. Thanks for tuning in. That’s it.
