A Dorchester native (GO RED SOX!), in 1973 I made my way across country and found myself in an isolated part of Alaska near the Tozitna River. I liked it so much I decided to stay! I barely made it through my first winter but learned to survive by trial and error with no shortage of near death experiences along the way. I spend my days trapping, dog sledding, and defending myself and the other locals from wolves, bears and other beautiful beasts of the Alaskan wilderness. I currently live about five miles outside the village of Tanana. I bought a government surplus house for $100…on the condition that I would move it. And so I did, to a remote area of woods near the Yukon River. There’s no running water or sewer system, but it’s my home. In 2012, Discovery decided to make a show about how we live our lives in Tanana along the Yukon River – the show returns for its 6th season on Friday April 21st at 9PM ET/PT!
