[SPOILERS]He's just bored

So a few weeks ago I was thinking about posting that I think Negan has failed to adjust to the ever changing conditions of the world. Obviously Negan didn't start out running a community, bedding a bunch of women, and bashing skulls in lineups. It all happened over time. Early on he was probably just really good against the dead. Someone people latched on to, like Rick. Over time it probably went to his head a bit and he started getting more and more ruthless. However it happened, it wasn't instant.

I felt though that he had failed to continue to evolve his strategy. That bashing skulls in of a few people worked to get communities to submit early on, but now it didn't quite have the same effect. If you think about Negan bashing in Glenn's head back at the original camp instead of now that wouldn't have got Rick or anyone else as riled up. No one was that close to anyone unless they were before the dead. Back then it would have made everyone in the group scared and willing to submit. These days though everyone knows everyone and it pisses them off more. Makes them willing to fight. The strategy to me just doesn't work now.

After the last episode though I've decided Negan is just bored. From the start it seemed silly to even mess with keeping Rick and a lot of the main group alive. They are obviously good fighters and dangerous. Negan clearly doesn't need more stuff as he already had enough for his group, and Rick and company offed a bunch of his people so there is even more. Best bet would have been to kill off all the fighters and take the rest to one of the other communities and tell them to live there and work for Negan.

Instead I think Negan keeps Rick and the rest around because it is fun. It's something to do. Fuck with Rick, see what he does, have a game of it. We know now that Negan knows Rick is up to something and he really isn't even that concerned. If he was he would just go to Alexandria and wait for Rick and kill him or something. Instead he's letting him do his thing so they can keep playing their game. Negan clearly doesn't value life so all of his team is expendable. Just pawns to play with. Have a little war game, laugh it off, do it again.
