In an episode towards the beginning, Jimmy was at Chuck's house. Jimmy kept saying how important it was to get something done, Chuck said 'I'm getting better!'

This must have been around the time that Chuck was being introduced. Jimmy even went on to tell Chuck he could end up on the streets or something. I'm trying to understand what that was all about, and I hope I'm not the only one.
If it was in black and white, which I think it might have been, does that mean it's probably a 'flash forward'. I recently heard this term in the context of this show, so it's a new term to me.
