What Was The Point?

Assuming Rick is killed off this season, this whole thing has been a giant waste of time. I mean, this is starting to feel like a repeat of Lost. I spent years eagerly waiting for Sunday nights and lurking on boards speculating about the lore all week. I bought the first three seasons to rewatch them and see if I missed anything. Then it ended in a flash of utter nonsense and left all the important questions unanswered (damn JJ Abrams' "mystery box"). AMC's The Walking Dead seems headed on a similar trajectory.

Once Rick follows Carl into the sweet goodnight then the Grimes clan is completely gone (Judith has had terrible character development and is Shane's daughter anyway) and everything we've witnessed over the past seasons is nullified. We were watching this show to see Rick lead his family to safety and forge some kind of future from this chaos. Now, he and his progeny will be gone and we'll be left with... Daryl doing what exactly?

For me, I don't think I can conceive of sticking with this story with Rick gone (and without being able to pass the torch to Carl). His death will be a disappointing closure for me and likely mark the end of my viewing of the Walking Dead. In the end I'll be left wishing the show I once found so compelling had been something else and be forced to roll my eyes when talking about it in the future.
