Just watched the Deadwood episode "Requiem for a Gleet"

Jesus Christ that was traumatizing. I had to go outside and take some deep breaths afterwards. If I didn't know ahead of time that "Swengin" was gonna survive that scene, then I may not have survived either. My father passed in late January. That episode depicts the horror of sickness so masterfully. Not only in the case of the sick one, but the agony of the ones close to him too. Amazing work from the cast all around. No doubt the scenes they filmed were disturbing enough to induce true uneasiness into their minds, which manifested onscreen and elevated the performances. As hard as it is to watch (and I'd never watch it again)--the best film and television make you feel like you just saw something real. If it feels real, then *you* feel it. It's a masterful example of how this medium can craft scenes--if done right-- that give you perspective into real life. They wavered the line between realism and shock value, but became steady and true at the end....just like Doc.

What a fantastic series so far though. Not sure why I waited so long to finish (been stuck on season 1 for over a year). Just in time for the upcoming movie though!

Edit-The very next line after that scene and they switch to Mr. W. "Are you uncomfortable, girls?

Are you uncomfortable.....quite fitting and surely not a coincidence :)
