When it comes to Maggie’s hatred towards Negan, I believe there is a lot more to it than just the fact that he killed her husband; Glenn right in front of her in the most brutal and sadistic way imaginable.
Before Glenn died, she was already having a difficult time with moving forward after all of the loved ones she lost in her family died in a very short period of time. From her step-mother & step-brother on the farm, to her father; Hershel and then her half-sister; Beth. She has so much trauma bottled up inside, and Glenn was the only person she had left that she felt comfortable enough to feel truly vulnerable around.
Even though Rick and Co. were her newfound family, her bond with them was nothing compared to what she formed with Glenn. In her eyes, he was still a reminder of her family she grew up with even though they only technically knew each other for 2-3 years. The way she was able to open up to him, is how she was able to cope with her PTSD. Which plays a factor into why she was always so determined to make sure he was never hurt, or was obsessed in finding him anytime they were separated.
When Negan comes in and takes Glenn away from her, that was her breaking point!! That was the moment where she comes to terms with the fact that her entire family was gone. She had such a hard time processing that fact, in the scene where Rick & Co are left by the Saviours to dwell in their grief and she has her emotional breakdown. Not only was the grief of losing her husband overwhelming her, but it was the moment she realized that she has no one left where she could feel vulnerable in the way she was with Hershel, Beth & Glenn. She had no else to go to for emotional support or guidance.
The one thing that all three of those deaths have in common, is the fact that Maggie never got to say goodbye to any of them. She feels cheated, lost and has nobody to help her in figuring out how to deal with and cope with her PTSD.
Her son helps her with staying strong and moving forward, but she has to be the one to provide emotional support for him. But because she has still not found any closure or peace, it could be dangerous in how she raises Hershel Jr.
Negan is not only a reminder of Glenn’s death, he is also a reminder that her entire family is gone.
